12 Awful TV Shows That Were Cancelled Before You Even Saw Them
6. Eldorado
So, Eldorado was this British soap opera about expatriates in Spain that ran for just about one year, and whose ultimate goal was to be competitive with shows like EastEnders or Neighbours. Needless to say, they failed hilariously. The biggest problem with this show is the total lack of thought that clearly went into it. Many of the actors featured on the show were limited by their lack of onscreen experience, which, for a soap opera, is saying something. There were bizarre choices made during the filming of the show, like making the actors speak foreign languages without subtitles or simply use a generic "European" accent, which might fly in the United States, but is certainly going to be met with derision in the UK. Audiences mocked the amateurish acting and poor production values, despite the relatively lavish costs of making each episode, and to make matters worse, ITV chose to air a special one hour episode of Coronation Street at the same time as Eldorado's premiere, which rather doomed the fledgling show before it even began. Even if it had been a half-way decent soap opera, there's no way that it would have been able to compete with Coronation Street in the early 90s.
