12 Best Animated Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

3. Young Justice

Batman The Animated Series
Warner Bros.

Young Justice kind of caught everyone off-guard when it arrived on screens in 2011. Understandably compared to the aforementioned Teen Titans series, it had a lot to prove if it ever wanted to form its own legacy... and yet that's exactly what it did. And it did so within a few mere episodes.

On the surface, Young Justice is everything you could ever want from a show revolving around young superheroes with a zest for life and an unending desire to do good (and prove themselves to their older, wiser mentors). It's loud, in-your-face and unapologetically youthful in its approach as heroes like Robin, Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, Miss Martian, Artemis and Superboy take on the world in the most energetic of ways.

And yet, below all that, there's a real maturity to it. Much like Teen Titans and Batman: The Animated Series, it successfully manages to employ long-running narratives, but it adopted a format you're more likely to see on live-action television in that it progresses these narratives over the course of a season, utilising each episode to further both specific character arcs and the overrarching story. And it does so better than perhaps any animated show in its genre.

It four-year campaign to get it revived - which was successful when the show returned for the third season last year - is a testament to just how popular the show truly is, and it's easy to see why fans were so invested because it is, quite frankly, one of a kind.
