12 Best Animated Superhero TV Shows Of All Time
9. Superman: The Animated Series
The second installment in DC's legendary Animated Universe, Superman: The Animated Series burst onto screens in 1996. A sequel series to Batman, it tried something different by actually delving into the Man Of Steel's origin story on-screen and created one of the most iconic iterations of the character in the process.
Throughout the course of the show, Supes went up against the likes of Brainiac, Darkseid, Metallo and even Batman villain Ra's Al Guhl. His most prominent arc, of course, came in the form of his long-running feud with Lex Luthor as the master manipulator attempted to bring down the Last Son of Krypton.
An unsung hero of the DCAU, it doesn't often get the credit it deserves, but make no mistake about it, it was every bit as engaging as its more-famous predecessor. Yes, like Batman: The Animated Series, Superman didn't shy away from mature and complex narratives and over the course of its four-year run, it provided fans with some of the most compelling storylines the Man of Steel had ever seen.
