12 Best Animated Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

5. X-Men: The Animated Series

You'd be hard-pressed to find an X-Men fan who doesn't hold up the 1992 animated series as the greatest adaptation of Marvel's merry band of mutant heroes, and that in itself is just one of many examples as to how it has stood the test of time.

First hitting screens back in October of '92, it was actually Marvel's second attempt at an X-Men animated series (following the mixed response to '89 pilot Pryde of the X-Men), and given what they ultimately ended up producing, it's safe to say we're happy that they tried again.

Adapting many of the comics' most famous storylines at the time, the show didn't shy away from tackling heavy, thought-provoking narratives as it quickly established the titular team of heroes as the mistreated outcasts of society that comic book fans knew them to be. Of course, that didn't stop them from raising hell with heroics as they battled some of the deadliest foes you could imagine - including but not limited to Magento, Apocalypse and Mister Sinister.

If you grew up in the '90s, this one was probably a regular on your TV screens, which isn't all that surprising given that almost every episode was 20 minutes of pure unadulterated entertainment.

It's just that good, bub.
