12 Best Character Arcs In The Walking Dead
4. Gabriel Stokes
One of the best characters left on the show, Gabriel Stokes has had an arc so deep and compelling it's crazy to remember he was once a cowardly, selfish priest who let his parish die at the start of the apocalypse. Found by Rick and the group in season five, he was weak, naive, and pathetic, but slowly began to have one of the show's best-ever arcs.
As the show wore on after his introduction, he betrayed and reconciled with Rick, questioned his faith, lost his sight, and proved his worth by protecting Judith during the walker invasion of Alexandria in season six. During the war with Negan, he formed an interesting relationship with the Savior's leader, and after the war became a key figure in the leadership of Alexandria.
His faith still occasionally stumbles, and as the Whisperer War ramped up, he began to question the notion of forgiveness and second chances he always held dear. Between this fractured thought process, his genuine bravery and his relationship with Rosita Espinosa, Gabriel's arc has been one for the ages, and only promises to get more compelling as the show comes to an end.
