7. Danny's Sacrifice (Death In Heaven)

Danny Pink's had quite a year, hasn't he? After embarking on a new career as a maths teacher at Coal Hill School in an attempt to forget his traumatising time spent as a soldier, he fell in love with a colleague who was secretly travelling through time and space and, when his eyes were opened to her double life, he ended up being hit by a car and resurrected as a half-converted Cyberman. He should've just stayed at home. For Clara Oswald, Danny was a match made in heaven, and not the Missy sort of heaven, either. He was always there for her and vowed to protect her but most importantly he kept her grounded which was exactly what she needed to be whenever she wasn't venturing to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Which was pretty much never, but she did manage to juggle her two lives pretty well while it lasted. In the end, though, he was the only hero she needed as in the Series 8 finale he sacrificed himself to save the world - though according to Clara's subconcious in Last Christmas, he was only really saving her - from its imminent Cyber threat. The soldier was called to action one last time and in his death he got the chance to repent his own sins, too, by returning the young boy he had killed in battle from the afterlife. Danny Pink, a hero until the bitter end. Now drop and give us 20!
