8. "Every Christmas Is Last Christmas" (Last Christmas)
Up next is a moment from the most recent episode in which the Doctor and Clara's dream gave us an intriguing insight into what could be but now never will be (that is, unless the next series has other ideas...) thanks to Clara's decision to step back aboard the TARDIS for adventures anew. Last Christmas was a mind boggling escapade filled with endless dreamy-weamy twists and twists but it ended - as all good Christmas Specials do - with a heartwarming and intimate scene which brought the spotlight back on to the show's central characters. After waking up from his own dream state, the Doctor rushed to Clara's aid to discover that she hadn't seen him for 62 years and she was now an old woman living alone in a huge house which has seemingly come from nowhere. Time never has been the Doctor's forte which is ironic to say the least. Clara seemed genuinely happy to see the Doctor again, despite having waited so long to be reunited with him. Amy Pond, eat your heart out. Clara had lived a long and happy life, though - she'd travelled the world, taught in every country in Europe and had somehow found the time to get a pilot's license along the way. She'd never found love again after Danny unfortunately, although she insisted there had been plenty of proposals. It was all just a dream in the end so it doesn't really matter anyway. Wrong! It was the perfect way for Doctor Who to mark the end of what has been a truly spectacular year - one which has put the Doctor and Clara's rocky relationship at the heart of its festivities. Although this sequence didn't really happen, the message remains true and that's that these two, despite all their faults, are ultimately at their best when they're together. And for that reason alone, it deserves its place on this list.
