12 Darkest Star Trek: Voyager Moments Ever

3. Dreaming Of A Massacre - Memorial

This is where the darker side of Voyager begins to present itself. This moment reminds the audience all too well of certain historical events that haunt society to this day. Massacres are not a light issue, and Voyager approaches them in an interesting way in the 6th season episode Memorial.

After returning from an away mission, Chakotay, Tom Paris, Harry and Neelix all begin experiencing dreams in which they are participating in the massacre of an alien race. While retracing their steps, the rest of the Voyager crew begin to experience similar dreams.

Every crewmember becomes severely distressed after having these dreams, and the effects of these dreams on the crew are visible. The images of the crew all sitting around with expressions of pain and guilt are haunting.

The crew ecventually discover that the nearby planet Tarakis experienced this massacre hundreds of years ago and a synaptic transmitter was erected to provide passers-by with knowledge about the massacre. By reliving the event, the horror of what occurred there would never be forgotten.

It's a difficult episode to watch, as the images of both the massacre and the effects the dreams had on the crew conjure thoughts of similar tragedies that have occurred throughout human history.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
