12 Darkest Star Trek: Voyager Moments Ever
2. Mistaken Memories Of Assault - Retrospect
Retrospect gave some dark moments and a deeper understanding that once a certain bell is rung, it cannot be un-rung. It's a heavy episode that not everyone will be able to get through.
During an interaction with an alien arms merchant, Seven has a memory of being assaulted by him. It should be noted here that memories are not as infallible as most people believe, so when Tuvok, the Doctor and Janeway choose to investigate her claims, it is believed the truth will be found and the situation resolved.
This does not quite happen however, and after discovering evidence pointing to Kovin's guilt, a warrant for his arrest is issued. He professes his innocence and flees in his ship. Once Voyager catches up with him and tell him they do not believe he assaulted Seven, as new evidence had been found, he doesn't believe them and blows up his ship.
This moment provided the realisation that claims of assault are more damaging than people believe, especially when it is found they aren't true. The understanding that memories can be wrong also gives rise to second thoughts about relying on them as if they were exact recordings.
