12 Darkest Star Trek: Voyager Moments Ever

1. Self-Harm On The Holodeck - Extreme Risk

B'Elanna has already provided one of the darkest Voyager moments, but this moment is many shades darker. Extreme Risk shows a side of B'Elanna no-none knew existed and made everyone aware of how her journey on Voyager had affected her. The themes of depression and self-harm throughout this episode contribute to the darkest Voyager moment ever.

After beginning to show signs of depression due to bad news she received in a previous episode, B'Elanna decides to participate in dangerous holodeck programs with the safety protocols off. Every time she goes back, she uses a more dangerous program, leading to more risk and more severe injuries. It's self-harm in the holodeck and it's unknown whether she will accept help.

After a particularly bad accident on the holodeck, the Doctor diagnoses B'Elanna with depression and Captain Janeway finds out B'Elanna had been running programs without the safety protocols on. She is relieved of duty and Chakotay comforts her, telling her the crew would help her through her tough time.

By the end of the episode, she does begin to show signs of positive emotions, but her attempts at self-harm on the holodeck continue to haunt viewers. If she hadn't gotten help she may have ended up taking her own life. Its a dark episode that gives an appreciation for mental health.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
