12 Great Comic Book References In Buffy & Angel

9. Human Torch €“ Witch

Human Torch In the third episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Witch", a witch (who turns out to be Amy Madison in her Mother's body) is using voodoo-like spells to hurt cheerleaders in order to get Amy (who is actually her Mother) in to the cheerleading squad ahead of them. In one instance, a cheerleader's hands spontaneously combust during the trials, which leads to this conversation... Buffy Summers: "Any common denominators in cases of spontaneous combustion?" Rupert Giles: "Uh, rage. In most cases the person who combusted was, was terribly angry or, or upset." Xander Harris: "So maybe Amber's got this power to make herself be on fire. It's like the Human Torch, only it hurts." The Human Torch is a member of the Marvel comic book superhero group the Fantastic Four who can engulf his entire body in fire (and, in his case, it doesn't hurt him).
