12 Great Sci-Fi TV Shows The World Forgot
2. Eerie Indiana
One of the clearest influences on Netflix's megahit series Stranger Things, the small town sci-fi mystery Eerie Indiana didn't need to travel back in time to earn some eighties/ nineties nostalgia points.
The corny, self aware series was an almost unseen also-ran upon its release in 1991 despite the involvement of anarchic horror comedy icon/ Gremlins helmer Joe Dante in its production.
Starring Hocus Pocus' Omri Katz as a disaffected teen protagonist unperturbed by the eponymous town's strangeness, this twisty mystery laid the blueprint for the many small town sci-fi shows which followed but did so with more winking humour and goofy charm than most of the later imitators could manage.
Forget the Duffer Brothers, Goosebumps creator RL Stine owes this show a debt for its spooky-meets-goofy tone.
