12 Great Sci-Fi TV Shows The World Forgot

3. Dark Skies

Another X-Files rip off? You're probably wondering.

Absolutely, because Dark Skies not only avoided the dicey political implications inherent in Prey's sketchy premise, but also managed to blame the death of JFK on aliens.

Yes, in the mid nineties the only way to stand out amongst a deluge of rip-offs that all hoped to capitalize on Chris Carter's uber-successful formula was to be even weirder than the X-Files already was, and whilst its core pair of agents may not have been too memorable, Dark Skies nonetheless made an impression with its wacky conspiracy theory angle.

Soon, though, the original X-Files caught up by incorporating the Lone Gunmen, conspiracy theorists who eventually earned their own spin-off show (also an underrated sci-fi gem). But Dark Skies remains worth a revisit for fans of nineties sci-fi TV history.
