12 Great Sci-Fi TV Shows The World Forgot

9. The Outer Limits

The Langoliers
Showtime

Always overshadowed by the inferior eighties and noughties Twilight Zone incarnations its run was sandwiched between, nineties Showtime anthology The Outer Limits deserves more love from sci fi tv aficionados.

Imbued with a meaner streak and darker sense of humour than the aforementioned, more anodyne Rod Serling tributes, The Outer Limits mixed the Twilight Zone's flair for clever satirical sci fi conceits with the more adult Tales from the Crypt's remorseless bleakness.

As such viewers were treated to spouses turning into alien monsters, school sports teams hiding monstrous mutation experiments, and all manner of twisted small town sci fi mysteries, each of which ended with a cruel twist in the tale, naturally.
