9. Kill Gil, Volumes 1 & 2
Kill Gil, Volumes 1 & 2 puts the focus on one of the newer characters of The Simpsons, Gil Gunderson. He happens to be one of the better of these "newer" characters (compared to, say, Cookie Kwan), and a passable replacement for the likes of Lionel Hutz, voiced by the late Phil Hartman.
The Season 18 episode sees the hapless jack-of-all-trades become an unwelcome house guest of the Simpson family. After being fired from his department store Santa job in front of the family, Marge invites him for Christmas dinner, only to have him overstay his welcome and fail to leave (not to mention ruin their Christmas).
The house guest from hell plot isn't new (to The Simpsons - i.e. Otto - or television itself, as it goes back years), but the focus on Gil is, and it's a welcome look at a character who can now be lumped in with the "classic" Simpsons supporting cast, but at the time was really just breaking out. Unfortunately, it's a classic that you won't be getting your hands on any time soon.
