12 Hilariously Bad Attempts To Reboot Classic TV Shows

3. The Munsters (Mockingbird Lane)

Popular 1960's sitcom The Munsters followed the lives of a family of monsters in everyday society. It holds a lot of similarities with The Addams Family and was even shown in the same period, both running from 1964 to 1966. The plan to revitalise the show came in 2010 when NBC decided to use the talents of Pushing Dasies creator Bryan Fuller to re-imagine the show for a modern audience. After a reshuffle at the top of NBC in early 2011, Mockingbird Lane was one of very few scripts that was kept on. Eventually the pilot, costing an estimated $10 million and directed by Bryan Singer, was made. Mockingbird Lane (named after the road the original Munsters lived on) starred Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as Lily and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa. In a strange move all the monsters kept their original names but had their makeup simplified, leaving everyone looking more like humans than the original 1960's cast did. A pilot was issued as a Halloween special in October 2012 and did rather well with an audience of 5.4 million. Fans hoped this would help change the network's mind about cancellation but despite being the original being a well-known classic, apparently it took a very high budget pilot for the studio to realise that they didn't want a high concept show about monsters. By December it was officially announced that the show would not get a full series.
