12 Moments That Have Defined The Last Decade Of Doctor Who

10. The Master Dies (Last Of The Time Lords)

Blimey. One minute this countdown is paying homage to the Master's return, and the next it's all about his death! Before the malevolent Missy, though, the Doctor's arch nemesis looked like that bloke from Life on Mars and his reign of terror in the Series 3 finale made for some of the most jaw dropping moments in Doctor Who history. Did he really just assassinate the President of the United States?! That was only just the beginning, too, as he unleashed his trove of Toclafane unto the unsuspecting human race and it was basically downhill from there, really. The Tenth Doctor was aged to the point of seemingly no return, Martha Jones single handedly walked the entire Earth and it all ended with the Master dying in the Doctor's arms. Because he was always going to win in the end, wasn't he? After being shot by his wife (in his own words, "it's always the woman!"), he literally chose death over the prospect of travelling with the Doctor which hit our beloved Time Lord pretty hard to say the very least. It wasn't really the end, of course, but the Doctor was well and truly alone in the universe once more. Perhaps even worse, the Master chose to make him alone. This beautifully poignant scene helped to define their ongoing rivalry which dates all the back to their formative years on Gallifrey. Fans will probably never fully understand the true nature of their relationship but this moment brought us one step closer.
