6. The Doctor And Rose Tyler's Farewell (Doomsday)
Uh oh. You'd better get your tissues at the ready for this one. You are reading a countdown of NuWho's most iconic moments, though, so you should've known that this would turn up eventually. The date was Saturday 7th July 2006 and it was the end of one of the show's most successful eras as the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler were forced to bid their final - *ahem* - farewell on the shores of Bad Wolf Bay. And oh, how the nation wept. And wept. And wept. This beach scene from the closing moments of Doomsday is now so iconic - and not to mention gut wrenchingly heartbreaking - that it's constantly being included in 'best of' British TV montages. With David Tennant and Billie Piper putting in such stellar performances, it doesn't take a genius to see why. Because it's just so damned sad, isn't it? They would've happily spent the rest of their lives together (or, at least, Rose would've happily spent the rest of hers with him...) but, as always, the universe had other ideas. It's one of those poignant moments in which Doctor Who really holds its own against all the other dramas available on the televisual market. In all its scale and scope, it came down to two people saying goodbye and all of us were with them every step of the way. it goes without saying, but Doctor Who can deliver one hell of a goodbye.
