12 Saddest Bojack Horseman Episodes

The penultimate episode of BoJack Horseman is one of the greatest, most devastating ever. Following on from the previous episode in which the titular character ditched his sobriety after being told he was being retroactively cut from Horsin' Around, he arrived at this mother's house with a young Sarah Lynn.

The dinner party with those that had passed was a recurring dream BoJack had had before, only this time it was slightly different. After the guests discussed their life and death, and the true meaning of sacrifice, they were taken through to the show, something that BoJack usually woke up before.

The episode gets incredibly dark, even for BoJack Horseman standards, as the guests perform on stage and head through the mystery door, never to return again. While BoJack shares a smoke with his Secretariat father, he is given the grim realisation that nothing we do in life really matters since we all end up in the same place eventually. Again, pretty depressing even for this show.

Panic and shock starts to set in for both BoJack and the audience when we see his lifeless body floating in the swimming pool, and it makes sense why he made it to the show this time. This was the end of BoJack Horseman. The final gut punch comes from Herb, who tells his friend that there is no other side to the door, and as BoJack is taken, the heart rate monitor suggests what we're all thinking, that he is dead. This should have, and would have been the darkest and most fitting possible end to the series.
