12 Saddest Bojack Horseman Episodes
2. That's Too Much, Man - S3E11
BoJack Horseman has done some questionable things throughout his life, but what happened in season three's penultimate episode was one of the saddest, and affected him possibly more than anything else. It was a demonstration of how selfish he was, and how little he cared about the feeling and welfare of others.
After losing out on an Oscar nomination for Secretariat, BoJack found Sarah Lynn who had been sober for nine months, and dragged her down onto a bender with him that would last months. They both ended up missing the Oscars, and clearly Sarah Lynn's family were very worried about her.
After driving all the way to Ohio on a drunken idea to make sure he didn't ruin Penny's life, BoJack ultimately reopened the wound that had seemingly healed, and that would take many more years to heal again. He didn't do it to make sure Penny had a good life, he did it to make sure he didn't have to feel guilty.
Of course the saddest part of the entire episode, and possibly the entire series, is the death of Sarah Lynn. After a real moment in which she admitted that she didn't like anything about herself, the two went to the planetarium, where she drifted off to BoJack telling her that everything will be alright, never to wake up again.
