12 Scariest Doctor Who Episodes

2. The Waters Of Mars

waters of mars

Again, this is fear of takeover by an alien entity. Again, the eyes are important. There the resemblance to other episodes ends, as this piece of glorious originality goes wild. Mars is supposed to be a dead planet, with nothing left alive. The men and women who came here came because of how rough Earth got. And now they may not be alone. Now, there is something else on this planet, something that doesn't like them, something that wants to get to Earth. Stopping it means death, death which if you're lucky will occur before it gets you. On top of that, the sheer physicality of these monsters is brilliant and terrifying. The twitching limbs of the men and women being taken over, the danger of a single drop of water, the cracked lips and damaged eyes of the people who've been reanimated...It's all enough for a batch of nightmares, and a bit of therapy.
