5. Sarah Lynn’s Planetarium
This one has been pointed out several times by more hardcore fans, with the show even parodying it themselves in Season Six. Still, more casual watchers most likely will have missed this, so it’s worth including.
Sarah Lynn was one of the most popular characters in the show, her death still probably the most devastating moment of it all. BoJack’s involvement in that is set to blow up in his face in the final half season, and there’s a little detail around her death set up in the earlier seasons too.
Right from Season One, we learn that Sarah Lynn’s career followed a Miley Cyrus style trajectory. A child star angel who broke out of that image as a hyper sexualised pop star. It’s parodied to obscene lengths with her song Prickly Muffin. In Season One, we get a little look at this video, including its choice of setting: a planetarium.
At the time, it didn’t really mean much. A comment on the strange settings for teen pop videos maybe, or just a suitably colourful background. Now though, it feels like a chilling foreshadowing of her early death.
