12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Friends

8. The Widescreen Netflix Release Includes Visible Stand-Ins

Though fans rightly rejoiced when Netflix acquired the rights to Friends, with widescreen HD transfers no less, the unforeseen result of this was that the widescreen presentation included elements which weren't considered for the original 4:3 TV airing.

As a result, not only are crew members and other production elements occasionally visible, but if you really keep your eyes peeled, you might spot a stand-in or two taking the place of the lead actors.

The most infamous example is surely the season eight episode "The One With Rachel’s Date," where Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) is talking to Monica (Courtney Cox) in Central Perk, except on the right-hand side of the frame, Monica's obviously-not-Courtney-Cox stand-in is plainly visible.

Such is the price paid for dragging these episodes out of the 4:3 doldrums, it seems.
