12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
10. Charlie's Tattoo
During Season Two, in an episode titled Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad, Mac decides he wants to reconnect with his father, who is currently in prison having had a lengthy career as a meth dealer. This idea comes to Mac as a result of the main plot of the episode, in which Dennis and Dee are contacted via Myspace by a man claiming to be their biological father.
However, it’s Mac and Charlie’s side-story that we’re interested in for this entry. When the pair visit Mac’s father in jail, he asks them to smuggle heroin in through their “prison purses” as a show of loyalty to him. Not thrilled by this idea, Mac and Charlie decide that they’ll prove how tough they are by beating up Dennis and Dee’s prospective new dad instead.
Throughout this escapade, the pair try and make themselves look like thugs by changing the way they dress and, in Charlie’s case, getting tattooed. Charlie attempts to tattoo “Bad News” on his forearm, though due to being an illiterate moron, he tattoos “BADNEW” instead.
The continuity-conscious of you will be glad to know that this tattoo is visible on his forearm in all future episodes. That’s 12 more seasons of commitment to a throwaway gag. Almost as much commitment as getting the tattoo for real.
