12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching The Walking Dead
10. The Whisperers Foreshadowed
Since we're on the topic of foreshadowing, let's venture back to before Morgan Jones began to drive fans up the wall with constant mood swings and shifting views on violence and morality. Way back in Season Three, Rick, Carl and Michonne venture into a nearby town looking for guns needed to defend themselves against the Governor and his forces.
There, the trio come across Morgan, last seen in the series premier. But Morgan is not who he once was. He is insane and manic. His son is dead and the walls detail his descent into madness. When he talks, he is rambling and incoherent. But amongst his raving Morgan says something very interesting about people wearing the faces of the dead.
Although the Whisperers had yet to make an appearance in Robert Kirkman's comics and Morgan was a clearly broken man, it could be that such an outburst foreshadows what is to come for the Survivors. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference, but an interesting one to re-evaluate all the same.
Since the Whisperers were so incredibly horrifying, perhaps a more overt reference would have better helped us emotionally prepare.
