12 Stupidest Decisions By Star Trek Characters

2. Soong Resurrects Picard

Star Trek Picard
CBS

In a series called, Picard viewers expected that they would be getting... Picard.

Which was the case strictly up to the finale of its first season, Et in Arcadia Ego. Early on in the season, the audience was told that Jean-Luc had limited time due to the advancing symptoms of Irumodic Syndrome. One belief was that this could be drawn out across the 2 or 3 seasons that the show could run for but not the case.

Instead of giving Picard a strong send-off helping to save the android colony from the advances of the Romulan Tal'Shiar fleet, why not just bring him back as an android. Data creator Noonien Soong's grandson took a punt and brought Jean-Luc back.

Stupid decision? Totally. The technology can only be used once, period, and at the end of the episode it's even telegraphed that Picard's lifespan isn't extended beyond what he would naturally have lived, it's only saved him from the ravages of Irumodic Syndrome. That means that this golem body which could have sufficed for another for a longer period has had its usage dramatically cut.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
