4. His First Break Was A Single Line In Space Cowboys
After moving to Hollywood to chase the dream, Hamm scratched around with a variety of poorly paid part-time jobs in an attempt to help get both his name and his face out there. He waited tables, delivered flowers, and generally did whatever he could to pay the rent. The first rung of the ladder he was able to grab onto though, came via a single line in Clint Eastwood's nostalgia sci-fi comedy Space Cowboys. Telling the story of a team of retired astronauts who are forced to go back into the stars for one last mission, Hamm managed to get himself a speaking part - albeit only a single line. Shuffling a deck of cards and trying to explain to some would-be thrill seekers that he can't do barrel rolls for them, Hamm somehow manages to pull of the same Draper-esque smirk some 8 years before Mad Men would cement the facial expression in TV history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhLTV8f2E-A
