12 Most Touching Moments On The Simpsons

3. Krusty And His Father Reuniting

Episode: Season 3 - "Like Father, Like Clown" The journey that ended with the passing of Rabbi Krustofski began with Bart and Lisa reuniting the Rabbi and his son, funnyman and local celebrity Krusty the Clown, real name Herschel. In season 3's "Like Father, Like Clown" we find that Krusty's dad forbid Herschel from entering the comedy business as a child, and has since disowned his son. Jackie Mason's delivery of "I have no son!" in the episode added gravitas to an episode that could have turned out to be a lark, and suddenly, the Simpsons had one of its most serious examinations of father/son relationships in the early years of the show. The most touching moment, however, is Bart's attempt at convincing Rabbi Krustofski that comedy is an acceptable career for a Jew. In the end, Bart reads a passage to the Rabbi, as follows: "Rabbi, did not a great man say€”and I quote, "The Jews are a swinging bunch of people. I mean, I've heard of persecution but what they went through is ridiculous. But the great thing is, after thousands of years of waiting and holding on and fighting, they finally made it." End quote." After Rabbi Krustofski struggles to come up with the source of the quote, Bart reveals "It's from Yes I Can by Sammy Davis, Jr. An entertainer. Like your son." From that point forward, the Rabbi and Herschel are father and son again.
