12 Most Touching Moments On The Simpsons

1. Maggie's First Word

Episode: Season 4 - "Lisa's First Word" The youngest Simpson child doesn't always get a lot to do on the show. Sure, she shot Mr. Burns, but aside from that, how many memorable Maggie moments are there? There's the time Homer tried to teach her to swim, and the time the Flanders family tried to baptise her, and - well what else? What do we think of when it comes to Maggie? Probably the most obvious character trait is her lack of speech and her pacifier. The sucking sound she makes is instantly recognizable, and even when the Simpsons has offered glimpses into the future, the writers have managed to avoid having Maggie say a word on screen. However, there was one occasion where Maggie did speak - and it was one of the most touching moments of the show. In "Lisa's First Word" the story centres around, obviously, Lisa, and her first word - which turns out to be "Bart" as she's crazy about her older brother as a kid. There's a running joke in the episode, however, about the kids always calling their dad "Homer" despite him wanting them to use "Daddy." At the end, Homer states that he wouldn't mind if Maggie never says a word - but then we see Maggie, alone in her room, speak for the first time. Voiced by Elizabeth Taylor, Maggie says "Daddy" - and we got one of the most touching moments the series has produced.
