12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching
7. Comedy Bang Bang
On the surface, Comedy Bang Bang doesn't seem like anything worth paying much attention to, basically just another talk show where celebrities goof around and promote their new projects. What's so special about that? Well, while it might look like that at first, Comedy Bang Bang uses the talk show template simply as a jumping off point, parodying the interview formula and becoming an insane, Pee Wee's Playhouse style comedy sandbox where anything can happen.
Celebrities do come on the show as themselves, but then there are comedians who come on as characters who our host Scott Aukerman interviews as if they're real guests. From there the episodes are filled with ridiculous games and bizarre little tangents and sketches to break it all up.
While shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follow a clear formula, Comedy Bang Bang is one of the few shows where literally anything can happen. One minute you're watching Scott interview Anna Kendrick, and then the next you're in a weird bit where everything outside the studio was destroyed in an apocalyptic event, or they're cutting to a fake movie trailer, or now one of the crew members is literally getting killed by the scrolling credits.
In an age where even the best of comedies feels kind of predictable, Comedy Bang Bang is a show for viewers tired of knowing what to expect.
