12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching

8. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

In terms of workplace comedies, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the best on the air right now, a nice spiritual successor to shows like Parks and Recreation and The Office with a bit of the 21 Jump Street movies thrown in there.

Following a group of cops working for the NYPD, the show has a pretty phenomenal cast with absolutely no weak link among them. Particularly great is Andre Braugher as Captain Holt, starting off as the stereotypical stoic black captain but quickly moving beyond that and becoming one of the most well written characters on TV in any genre.

The writers love to set up cliches of cop movies only to completely subvert them, with a main character who desperately wants to be John McClane but who's constantly met with the realities of actual police work. In one great scene from this past season, he's super excited to get to chase a criminal on the tops of cars, only to fall through one that has its sunroof open.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is pretty much the best workplace comedy out there, consistently amusing with an extraordinary lineup of comedians that keep the funny coming week after week.
