12 TV Deaths You Knew Were Coming (That Still Broke You)
1. Jon Snow - Game Of Thrones
Perhaps the worst kept secret in all of television, Jon Snow's death at the end of season five in Game of Thrones is one of the most predictable, yet totally heartbreaking scenes in all of entertainment history.
Ever since his relationship with Ygritte the Wildling ended, Jon looked a beaten man walking Castle Black, regularly adding to his growing list of enemies by mainly winding up Alliser Thorne. One of the few individuals south of the Wall who understood the threat of the Night King, Jon allows an army of Wildlings to pass through the Castle Black and live out in the North in the season, hoping to stir up enough of force to repel the attack from the army of the dead.
Whilst readers of the books were once again smugly claiming that they knew Jon's fate before anyone else, it didn't take much to work out that the show's main hero was in serious danger from that moment on. The arrival of the magical Melisandre added further fuel to the fire, and when Jon is summoned from his chambers by some of his fellow brothers in the closing scenes of episode ten, the writing is very much on the wall.
That isn't to say the scene isn't an absolute tear-jerker though. Every stab is felt by the viewer, and the final blow delivered by Jon's own steward is a poetically tragic (albeit temporary) end to our hero.
