12 TV Moments Made Unintentionally Depressing By Real Life Events
10. The Cosby Show: Cliff Huxtable Drugs Women
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA4yuz8qgj4In light of recent events, this relatively innocent scene from The Cosby Show instantly turns into something out of a horror film.
In Season 7, the episode The Last Barbecue ends with a reveal that Cliff Huxtable secretly puts something extra into his barbecue sauce that makes women want to have sex. Seriously, this happened. Jump forward to 2015, and it's now known that Cosby actually gave women quaaludes and raped them.
In a conversation with his wife in the episode, Cosby goes on and on for way too long about his sauce in a slow, creepy voice like a serial killer bragging about how many people he’s killed. At the time this was just seen as Cosby being silly, but it's so profoundly difficult to watch today.
It's not even a case where Cosby would go on to commit criminal acts after the show ended. No, by the time this episode aired, the comedian had already been sexually assaulting women for decades, so he essentially wrote a whole show making the idea of drugging people without their knowledge into a joke after he had drugged and allegedly sexually assaulted dozens of women.
Just about any episode of The Cosby Show can be considered horrifying these days, but this scene definitely takes the cake.
