12 TV Reboots You Didn't Know Were Coming

9. Punky Brewster

Gossip Girl Cast
NBC

Pretty much everyone has a streaming platform these days, don't they? In what seems to be a complete misunderstanding of what streaming offers consumers, NBC are launching their own platform (named Peacock after their distinctive logo), where they'll house in demand programming like, um, the Punky Brewster remake.

The original show was a decent '80s guilty pleasure, and might be remembered fondly by some, but it's hardly a timeless classic. It featured young Punky being adopted by a foster father and just trying to get by, gosh darn it. A little sickly sweet in places, with quite a few telegraphed gags, but ultimately, pretty decent.

Certainly not the sort of thing you can imagine many people demanding more of though. If this is what Peacock are coming out of the gates with, it's surely a worrying sign.

The reboot won't be a standard affair, but will instead be a continuation, with Punky Brewster now fully grown up and a single mother of three, divorced from a Freddy Prinze Jnr's character. Original Punky Soleil Moon Frye will be back too (probably without her trademark bunches), but whether it survives beyond its initial ten episode season is anyone's guess right now.
