12 TV Shows That Don't Live Up To Great Premises

8. Orange Is The New Black

Orange is the New Black Season 5 Alex Piper

One of the first Netflix originals (and arguably the first decent one) was up and down throughout its seven-year run. With its intriguing look into a women’s prison (inspired by a true story, and appropriately studded with real details) and its expertly woven blend of comedy and drama, it was replete with strong characters from backgrounds you don’t always see represented on TV.

Then it went on, and on, and on. Netflix have had a bit of a scattershot approach when it comes to commissioning their original shows, so when one works, as Orange Is The New Black undeniably did, it tends to stick around for a long while. OITNB has its dedicated fans, but even the most enthusiastic would surely agree that it started to decline pretty swiftly.

There were plot lines that went nowhere, plot lines that dragged on far beyond their natural shelf life, and they lost many of their best characters and kept many of the less interesting ones. Tragically the show went from something incredibly fresh, vibrant, and vital, to something just fine.
