Diane Nguyen was brought into BoJack Horseman’s life as a ghost writer for the autobiography he just couldn’t write himself. He had to work closely with her, and they grew to be very good friends. You could argue that this was the healthiest relationship BoJack ever had in his life.

However, on the release of the book, their friendship took an absolute battering. After BoJack tried to kiss Diane, she found it too weird to work so closely with him, and finished the book with what she already had. This turned out to be something of a scathing summing up of their six months together, rather than an actual biography.

BoJack was understandably pissed off, however he did not handle it in the best way. He ripped Diane to shreds, demeaned her and called her work sh*t, saying it would never see the light of day. Of course it ultimately did, and he was utterly humiliated.

The release of the book was actually one of the best things to happen to BoJack, because it earned him a Golden Globe and made him relevant enough to be cast as Secretariat. However, none of that mattered when he was so empty inside after losing someone so close to him, losing her respect, and not speaking to her until they reconciled awkwardly over three months later.
