13 Best TV Moments Of 2016 (So Far)
9. Bachmanity Saves Pied Piper - Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley - a show nowhere near enough people are watching - is one of the smartest and funniest series on TV at the moment, and has been ever since it debuted back in 2014. It continues to go from strength-to-strength, with Season 3 the best yet, and still feels like it hasn't quite reached its full potential.
Again, there were a lot of standout moments here, including a rather graphic scene of horse sex that, if I had the heart to write 200+ words about horse fornication would probably be here. Given my surprising lack of desire to go into detail about the aforementioned Equus erotica, however, let's instead talk about the ending.
Silicon Valley seems to enjoy pulling the rug from under the 'heroes'; just when it seems like Richard and the Pied Piper crew have crafted some success, something - at times of their own making - will happen to completely derail it. And that's what makes what happens in The Uptick (Season 3's finale) so great.
With Pied Piper having faked its numbers, chief rival Gavin Belson bids $1million to buy it, and effectively put it out of existence. Richard is accepting that he's doomed to his fate, until it's revealed that there was a higher bidder, with Elrich and Big Head beating Belson's offer by a dollar, thus becoming the new owners of Pied Piper. What's more, the group have discovered that their video chat app could be extremely valuable. Everything's looking up for the group, so naturally we're waiting for the rug pull. The best part is that it never comes. (Until Season 4, probably.)
