2. Aaron Bass and the Golem
Location: Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
First Appearance: Season 8, Episode 13 "Everybody Hates Hitler"
Played by: Adam Rose (Aaron Bass) and John De Santis (The Golem of Vitsyebsk) I don't really care how you get these characters back in the spotlight, just find a way to do it. Appearing part-way through, apathetic secular Jew Aaron Bass and his gruff, disapproving Golem, passed to him by his grandfather, Rabbi Bass, were the best surprise of season 8. A great change of pace, and directly tied to the world of the Men of Letters, Aaron, the Golem and their group, The Judah Initiative, brought fresh air to the series and injected some pathos as we watched an ordinary guy and his mythic guardian battle an evil that would resurrect the Third Reich if it could. What worked best, though, was the fabulous interplay between wispy Rose and the hulking De Santis (aided by some great fx prosthetics) who took shots at each other whenever possible, but were ultimately tied to one another and had to make the best of it. It would be incredibly easy to bring them back for an episode or two, here or there, but I truly believe these guys would be absolutely amazing as regular weekly characters who could grow and interact with others over the course of a season. It's not often you see characters you want to follow out of the show and further on down their own adventure, but Aaron and the Golem really do qualify. I don't know anyone who wasn't ready to see more of them after their first appearance. If I could have only one of these thirteen actually come to pass, it would be this one.
