13 Characters That Should Appear In The Supernatural Spinoff

12. Sheriff Jody Mills

jody-spnLocation: Sioux Falls, South Dakota First Appearance: Season 5, Episode 15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" Played by: Kim Rhodes When sheriff Jody Mills was first introduced on Supernatural, she was another character who reflected the usual hunter arc that Bobby and the Winchesters have themselves experienced; she loses her family to paranormal forces and then has a crash-course in fighting evil. Her young son Owen comes back from the dead and ate her husband, and while she's still sheriff and Sioux Falls is a long way from Chicago, recent appearances of the character have suggested she's getting restless with ordinary crime. In her next set of appearances in Season 7, it seemed to some that she might be set-up as a love interest for Bobby Singer but to me it always felt like she was being slowly groomed to take over Bobby's Uber-Hunter status, before Garth of course showed up and took that role in the wake of Bobby's death. In her last appearance--which was the most recent episode of the show to date--she confesses to the brothers that she's been listening to the police scanners for signs of unusual activity. Jody has the potential to be a great character, partially because she's not as fringe as the Winchesters or Bobby Singer, and has one foot in the real world that everybody else is living and one in this sub-universe of fantastical monsters. I'd argue though that she's unlikely to get the proper opportunity to rise to her full potential just playing occasional sidekick to the Winchesters and that a move to a show where she can be more of a main player would be the best use of Ms. Mills. Actress Kim Rhodes would bring a wonderfully grounded charm to whatever scenario she stepped into.
