1. Chyler Leigh - Supergirl
When the writers of Supergirl wish to hit their viewers in the feels, you can rest assured that they'll turn to Chyler Leigh to make it happen - and, in all honesty, it's easy to see why.
Portraying the sister of the titular superhero, Leigh has been at the heart of some of the show's most emotional moments and never misses an opportunity to remind us just how much of a reliable performer she is - even if the material doesn't always make it easy for her to do that. That being said, nothing could have prepared viewers for the emotional onslaught that awaited us in the season's penultimate episode.
As Alex cradled Supergirl's lifeless body in her arms, she pleaded with her once-invincible sister to return to her and, for the first time in a long time, it felt like the show had some real stakes. This was, of course, all down to Leigh's strong performance, as she effortlessly managed to convey just how much Kara meant to her and just how desperate she was to save her.
A raw and powerful turn (from an actress who was already accustomed to delivering raw and powerful turns), this stood out as one of the finest performances to grace TV screens all year because, through every tear in her eyes and crack in her voice, Leigh made us feel every pain-staking ounce of Alex's pain... and it moved us beyond words.
Perhaps the finest performance of her stellar career, this was nothing short of stunning and, quite frankly, it alone highlights why she deserves an Emmy nomination.
