12. Phil Leotardo - The Sopranos

The Sopranos Phil Leotardo death
HBO

The silver-haired devil Phil Leotardo ultimately ends up becoming the acting boss of the New York Lupertazzi Crime Family, and as the final season of The Sopranos begins to wind down, he starts to wage a war against Tony Soprano's New Jersey-based DiMeo family, assassinating Bobby Baccalieri and putting Silvio Dante in a coma. The series finale is all about whether Phil will be able to bring down Tony or not, though due to internal dissatisfaction with the way Phil ran the family, he ended up getting "got" first.

Leotardo is filling up his car at a petrol station with his wife and two granddaughters when he's shot in the head by Walden Belfiore, a member of the DiMeo family. Walden pumps a few more bullets into Leotardo, and if this wasn't satisfying enough, the SUV his family are in, still in the drive position, slowly drives over Phil's face, crushing it, complete with a grotesque bone-crunching sound. Not awesome enough? One onlooker hilariously shouts, "Oh s***!", and a kid watching vomits.

Tony was no saint, but seeing his chief rival get taken down in such brutal fashion was fantastic. Heck, even FBI Agent Harris is pretty happy about it, exclaiming "We're gonna win this thing!", referring to the New Jersey vs New York war.
