A Superman show without Superman? That'd be like a Batman show without Bat... oh.

SyFy are going for their own DC prequel series with the long-gestating Krypton, which takes place around 200 years before the events of Man of Steel. Instead it'll focus on Supes' grandfather, Seg-El, as he fights to redeem the name and honour of his family.

It's being brought to screen by Damian Kindler (Stargate) and David S. Goyer (whose extensive record with comic book properties is somewhat mixed), with the likes of Cameron Cuffe, Georgina Campbell, and Ian McElhinney among the cast.

Prequels can be hit or miss, but there's scope for something interesting here: an off-world political struggle, and of course getting some of the most in-depth exploration of Superman's home planet we've seen on screen, in all of its glory.

Air Date: TBC, 2018
