13 Reasons Why 13 Reasons Why's Final Season Is A Complete Trainwreck
10. None Of The Romances Work
Aside from the pre-existing relationship of Tony (Christian Navarro) and Caleb (RJ Brown), none of season four's romances were executed well.
Clay and Ani abruptly broke up after only three episodes, which felt very jarring considering that they'd been built up as a couple throughout season three. Speaking of which, after the break-up Ani randomly disappeared for several episodes to look after her unwell mother, which was yet another pointless and inconsequential subplot.
As for Alex Standall's (Miles Hezier) relationships with Winston (Deaken Blueman) and Charles (Tyler Barnhardt), both cases felt far too sudden and never quite gelled.
Justin and Jessica (Alisha Boe), meanwhile, just did the same old schtik. They kept on making up and breaking up and it's just so boring at this point. Worse still, Justin randomly broke up with Jessica in episode one with no explanation at all and Jessica then embarked on a chemistry-free romance with the otherwise-solid new character, Diego (Jan Luis Castellanos).
Regarding Tyler (Devin Druid), it was nice to see him in a relationship, but with the younger sister of the boy who raped him? That was just a bit uncomfortable.
