13 Reasons Why: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
1. Season 1
The first season of 13 Reasons Why was a heartbreaking tale that sparked a wave of contrasting emotions from anyone and everyone who watched it.
Its sensitive subject matter sparked controversy and outrage from some who understandably felt such topics shouldn't have been tackled in a widely available teen show, while others applauded it for unapologetically shining a spotlight on issues that just aren't talked about enough and delivering a very powerful storyline in the process.
It's hard to fully put into words all of the emotions that 13 Reasons Why's debut season makes you feel. It's haunting, thought-provoking and tragic; it doesn't hesitate in breaking your heart by shying away from feelgood cliches, and in doing so, it produces one of the most compelling young adult dramas of the 21st century.
Katherine Langford is undoubtedly the star of the show, but Dylan Minnette and Kate Walsh are equally as powerful, ensuring that you can't go for more than a few minutes each episode without being moved by at least one of them. Those three, along with so many other performers, shine with a complex cast of characters - all of whom are deeply flawed and incredibly well-characterised.
No matter how many silver linings came in the seasons that followed, not a single one of them ever reached this level of storytelling and, because of that, not a single one of them ever came close to producing anything as truly gripping as this one.
