13 Reasons Why Review: 10 Ups & 9 Downs From ALL 4 Seasons

13 Reasons Why Season 2 Alex Monty

Perhaps the biggest issue with 13 Reasons Why carrying on way past its first season was the fact that the writers had to find something even more traumatic each time round. And considering that aforementioned first season dealt with Hannah Baker's suicide and the guilt that ravaged her family and friends for both not being able to save her and contributing to her stress, they had to come up with a lot of heavy stuff.

While Season 1 was certainly a heavy watch, it was handled at least some sensitivity and it also provided a compelling and thought-provoking tale that engaged all of us to the very end. The rest of the show, however, played out like a typical teen drama designed to pile on more pressure and stress to its main characters just for the sake of it.

Yes, we get that Liberty High is a bad place, but after losing Hannah and bearing the guilt that came with that loss, losing Jeff Atkins and nearly losing Alex, we had to watch these poor characters suffer through another strange high school investigation, a trial, a legitimate murder investigation (while trying to cover up said murder) and the subsequent fear that the truth would come out during their Senior Year.

It goes without saying that the characters had been through enough following the conclusion of the first season, so to see them go through so much heartache after that (that they ultimately didn't have to) certainly didn't sit well with many people.

Now, for the positives...
