One thing that we've all noticed at some point or another when it comes to Netflix's original programming is that many of these shows tend to suffer because they just have too many episodes. We've seen it happen to greats like Jessica Jones more than once and even its own spin-off The Defenders struggled with a mere eight installments. Naturally, 13 Reasons Why also suffered from this throughout its run.

The first season made use of the 13-episode structure via the 13 tapes and, for the most part, it worked, but when had to force elements of the story three-quarters of the way through, it became clear that it could have been told more effectively in 10 or 11 episodes instead.

Ironically, it's only the 10-episode final season that could have done with one or two more offerings because it rushed through a number of things without giving them time to breathe, but on a whole, too many episodes resulted in at least one midseason lull. And if you continued on past the first season, you'll know that most of the subsequent seasons had more than just one.
