13 Reasons Why Review: 10 Ups & 9 Downs From ALL 4 Seasons
1. The Cast
13 Reasons Why's greatest asset has always been its insanely talented cast. When the material was worthy of them, they absolutely shone and even when it wasn't, they made it seem like it was - and that's not something you can fake.
We've discussed how stunning Katherine Langford was as Hannah Baker, but we simply don't talk enough about how Dylan Minnette did an incredible job - both alongside her in the first and for the three seasons that followed when he took the leading role. Clay Jensen wasn't necessarily a likable protagonist, but he was at least an engaging one and that's all down to Minnette's outstanding performance.
Then you have Miles Heizer who effortlessly made us feel every painstaking ounce of agony that Alex Standall was feeling, Brandon Flynn who charmingly brought Justin's killer smile (and the heartache beneath it) to life with ease, Devin Druid who broke our hearts as the troubled Tyler Down and the brilliant Justin Prentice who masterfully turned us against him with his blood-boiling performance as the villain of the piece: Bryce Walker. And speaking of emotion-invoking offerings, Kate Walsh delivers the performance of her career as Hannah's heartbroken mother Olivia Baker.
The list is endless and we could single out every last one of them because, in all honesty, they were the reason we continually found ourselves attached to these compelling characters. And they were absolutely breathtaking right up until those final credits rolled.
