13 Reasons Why Season 3 Review: 7 Ups & 5 Downs
Downs...
5. No Hannah Baker
The most striking thing about Season 3 of 13 Reasons Why was the complete lack of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford). The heart of the story, it was Hannah’s death and the tapes she left behind which ended up spawning the first season’s narrative. And, unfortunately, this season just doesn’t feel right without her in it.
While the third season does a commendable job of differentiating itself from the previous two by focusing on a new story altogether, the fact that the show is no longer telling Hannah’s story robs it of its own identity.
Sure, it might be a compelling murder mystery, but how can it stop itself from falling into the same category as other teen murder mystery dramas like Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale?
Without Hannah Baker, there is no 13 Reasons Why, and the fact Season 3 even exists proves that Netflix is still oblivious to that.
