13 Reasons Why Season 4: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
1. Alex Standall
One of the richest characters in recent TV history, Alex Standall has struggled to overcome his self-hatred for the longest of times. From his guilt over what happened to Hannah to his recovery from his suicide attempt and now his guilt over killing Bryce Walker, he has been through so much over the course of the show and there are so many layers to the character that it's hard not to find yourself championing him everytime he has to overcome adversity.
His arcs have always been among the most engaging but they haven't always been given the screen-time they deserved. Thankfully that ends in Season 4 as Alex goes on something of a different journey - one of self-discovery - and it's a highly rewarding one.
He spent the majority of Season 4 attempting to do two things: Finding a way to tackle his inherent sadness and confronting the fact that he likes boys. What he didn't realise though was that both of those things went hand-in-hand because, in spite of his deflecting and pushing away, he finally allowed himself to be happy by embarking on a relationship with Charlie St. George.
This season, it felt like we were seeing Alex for the first time because, after being through so much, he finally found a way to be happy again. And that, more than anything, made his journey an incredibly rewarding experience.
