14 Most Watched Doctor Who Episodes Of All Time

11. The Day Of The Doctor

Well, you didn't really think that the Tenth Doctor would be able to stay off this list for very long now, did you? This wasn't really one of his episodes, of course, as the TARDIS was actually being helmed by Matt Smith at this point, but something tells us that David Tennant's long awaited return helped contribute to this episode becoming one of the most watched in Doctor Who history, albeit just shy of the top ten. Oh, it also happened to be the 50th anniversary special, too, which would've helped a bit. Suffice to say, public interest surrounding the longest running sci-fi series in the world was at an all time high throughout 2013 as TV's favourite Time Lord prepared to mark half a century on our screens in a feature-length extravaganzathon (that's a word, right?) called The Day of the Doctor. So, not pompous at all, then. That day finally arrived on Saturday 23rd November in an Earth-shattering adventure which featured a plethora of Doctors, friends and foes from the past, present and future as an audience of 12.80 million people tuned into help the show celebrate its momentous milestone in style. And that was just in the UK, too. The episode was also simultaneously broadcast in over 90 countries and screened - in 3D, no less - in cinemas all around the globe, which means that for one shining moment, Doctor Who really did come close to taking over the entire world. Just you wait until the 100th anniversary. The whole universe might just implode...
